Introducing the Dirty Bird AR-15 17-7 Stainless Steel Flat Wire Spring. Buffer springs are often a part that is overlooked when building an AR from the ground up, but a quality buffer spring can prevent “stove-pipes”, misfeeds, and ensure popular cycling. The Dirty Bird Flat Wire Spring will have your AR running at optimum performance and outlasting a standard music wire carbine buffer spring. This spring can be used in both carbine and standard length stocks. Constructed from 17-7 Stainless Steel, this buffer spring is crafted for extra abuse and maximum toughness. Finally, a coating of Sandstrom 28A is applied to the spring to achieve peak performance. What is Sandstrom 28A? Sandstrom 28A is a laquer-like coating that is used by the Department of Defense. This low-friction coating can be used in adverse conditions from -325 degrees to 300 degrees, when load pressure is over 100,000 PSI, and still function properly. Sandstrom 28A is virtually unaffected by corrosion, acids, oils and degreasers. I love the feel of the spring, love the recoil impulse. However, one negative, i specifically asked whether this spring would work in an A5 length buffer system. For those that don't know, this was created by VLTOR, the buffer tube is 3/4 inch longer than carbine tube, it uses a special longer VLTOR buffer, and uses a rifle length spring. I was told this spring would function in… read more an A5 tube. It cycles, but it struggles stripping a round when loading a new mag with an open bolt, it is not quite strong enough to get the bolt into battery every time. I had this happen 3x in 60 rounds when doing some minor testing at the range. Otherwise, in a regular carbine tube, I love the flat wire. Going to try to return and get a longer version.

I bought this buffer spring as an upgrade over the stock spring. Totally worth it. I noticed it is longer than the old one, but compressed without a problem. And it eliminated the 'twang' of the recoil as well.

This flat wire buffer spring is an inexpensive upgrade that gets rid of the twanging noise of a traditional buffer spring. I felt it made a noticeable difference in noise and felt recoil when I added a Geissele heavy buffer to it. Thanks AR15Discounts!

The item is very similar to famous David Tubb flatwire spring. It holds also inner and outer diameter (unlike Strike Indiustries flat wire that is narrower internal diameter). I will keep comparing Tubb's spring with Dirty Bird, but so far the both versions of AR-15 spring work the same and have the same paremeters after crude testing.

This Dirty Bird spring was not easy to install. The fit on the buffer itself was tight, not a push on. To get the spring into the buffer tube was difficult and I had to hold down the stop with a screw driver. Once installed it appears to “feel” similar but election is keeping me from the range. I counted coils and despite being 5” longer it has less coils than the piano wire.… read more Will report on how it runs.
