Presma AR-10 Barrel Vise Block Rod - Black
This “vise block rod” worked out great. I don’t think you can fin a more affordable one anywhere else.
AR-10 Vise Block Rod Review by West Coast Les!
The Presma vise block rod is an excellent option if your looking for a tool to get the job done right at a fair price. It allowed for a straight forward barrel installation and upper receiver build out. I knew I had to have one after I watched one of my gun mates wrestle his barrel sitting on the couch with the rifle between his legs mumbling something about “he didn’t need… read more no torque specs, he just tightened it down until it’s tight enough”. Good, fast shipping.
Not strong enough
This worked to install and remove muzzle devices, but failed completely installing a barrel nut. It snapped right about the 60 ft-lb mark and the pin gouged my upper on my ZEV billet AR10. Needless to say I was quite infuriated. My overall experience with this product has been less than satisfactory. I guess it is a hard less learned, you get what you pay for. Be warned this thing… read more will not handle anywhere close to 70 ft-lbs. I wouldn’t go above 40, it’s not worth damaging your upper! READ THE OTHER REVIEWS, WE CAN’T ALL BE GORILLAS.

Presma AR-10 Barrel Vise Block Rod
Very useful tool for proper barrel installation
Presma AR-10 Barrel Vise Block Rod - Black - AV3 slop!
Unfortunately it’s not held in place firmly and is able to rock or wiggle back n forth a little. Had to have help while applying torque values to barrel nut. Bottom Line to much play, ar15 rod tight fit no issues. AR-10 Barrel Vise Block Rod ???
Piece of junk
The item states that it can handle 70+ lb-ft of torque, this is a bold faced lie. I set one barrel with it at 50 lb-ft and it worked fine. When I used it again on my own barrel, my torque wrench was set to 60 lb-ft and the head of the unit with the lugs rotated about 30 degrees independent of the shaft, pushing the coil pin outward and gouging my $390 upper. This was on a high end… read more precision AR10 build and this “tool” has now cost me time that I can’t get back and an upper receiver that is more expensive than most peoples complete uppers.
Great for building ar’s
Works great and a great price to boot!!
Worked GREAT!!!!
It functioned flawlessly. I have not tried any others so my experiences are minimal, however it functioned well.
Worked for me
The reactor rod is aluminum with a steel roll pin that holds the end cap (part that seats into barrel chamber. After using to torque down the barrel nut and muzzle brake, it was a little loose, but it held up ok. I read other reviews saying the end cap stripped off and damaged their receiver. I was careful (and nervous) when applying pressure. I was able to torque to 60 lbs. without… read more failure. I'm not sure it would take a full 80 lbs. My Real Avid bar is solid (no pinned end cap) but it's ar15 size and I needed ar10. This works for me, but if you are looking for the most robust rod, this isn't it. But expect to pay much more.
It ‘wiggles’
This vice block has, what looks like, a removable end piece that fits into the barrel. It’s held in place by a large roll pin. Unfortunately it’s not held in place firmly and is able to rock or wiggle back n forth a little. It ‘worked’ well enough for me to mount the barrel and muzzle device, but I can not recommend it and would buy something else if I ever needed… read more too.
Awesome tool!
If you put together AR’s get these. This allows you to torque up barrel nuts and muzzle devices without putting any stress on your upper receiver. Locks into barrel and feed ramps securely. This model is for the AR-10 platform and is waaay cheaper than other manufacturers.
Good product, Bad roll pin!
After reading all of the comments, against my better judgement I purchased this item. I began the build being extremely careful while I torqued the barrel and I began to noticed the barrel rod was slipping, I inspected the rod and noticed the roll pin was no holding up so i removed the pin and saw that it was bent and luckily I payed close attention and not ended up like most on… read more the reviews. (Idea from someone in the reviews) I customized a size 1/4-20 x 2 SS machine screw to screw in place of the roll pin, it works just fine under most kinds pressure, now I wouldn't go brute force on it! I gave it a three due to having to customize the product for it to work as it was intended for but do recommend it if you don't mind a little work before using. Hope this was helpful!
Inexpensive could do the job
Like the item. It didn’t cost alot and I have been able to torque down barrel nuts on upper with no issues. But this item being aluminum has me concerned if I need to break one down that has been over torqued. But it hasn’t failed and I am satisfied as it has done what I have asked.
Wish I would have read the reviews
40lbs on the torque wrench broke the roll pin, deformed the aluminum of the rod and marred the inside of the upper. Stay away from this. Buy nice or buy twice I guess...
Best Bang for the $
This thing rocks, especially for the price. It did everything I needed it to do to build my .308
Excellent customer service
Had an issue with my order and emailed AR15DISCOUNTS.COM I immediately received a reply from their customer service and after answering a couple simple questions and providing a photo back to them I was credited for my purchase. The response time and actions during this increased buying craze was extremely impressive. A+ service and items! Thank you!
Cheap functionality
Keeps my barrels mounted straight when changing out the muzzle device. Does it on a budget.
Not a strong piece.
Immediately bent and broke pin as soon as I used it
Excellence
Held and fit absolutely perfect
Such a good deal
This is the best deal you'll ever find. Works just as good as any other. So happy I bought it
Great and at a reasonable price
The reaction bar performs as advertised and is half the price of others.
Worked great
I used it on a Gibbz side charging upper and had to remove the side handle for it to slide in but made it easy to tighten the barrel nut
Junk - don't purchase
Set my torque wrench to 50 ft-lbs and went to torque the barrel and the roll-pin sheared off and it cause the tool to gouge my new upper. Don't waste your money!
Ok, not great
The roll pin sheared when trying to torque the barrel, but had a lag bolt to substitute. Chewed my upper on the exterior but it was be trying to finish my build. Once the roll pin was replaced with the lag bolt, worked great.
Worked well, this thing is massive
Used this just this past weekend installing a Surefire Warcomp muzzle device on a friend's DD 308. It worked well and I like that you can rotate the receiver in it however you need to in order to make sure the muzzle device was timed proper. It's a solid tool and glad I have it around.
Save your money
Save your money. Buy a giesslle. Snapped the head off torquing down the barrel just seating the threads. It ended up gouging my reciever. Not real happy. You get what you pay for.
Revised review:
With a torque wrench set at 65 ft lbs., the material in the rod deformed and pushed the coil pin holding the tip of the tool outward. Tip deflected better than 15° under that amount of torque and stayed there. Plastic deformation, not elastic. I got lucky in that the pin pushed out the ejection port rather than pushing inboard and gouging my receiver. Listing plainly states… read more will handle 70+ ft lbs of torque, but radically deformed at levels below that. Very disappointed with this tool. Inferior material choices and/or heat treating took a promising design and turned it into a tool that could potentially ruin an expensive receiver.
Bought to build an upper
I bought to put together an upper. I have mixed feelings about how good it was to use.
Quality Tool
Well built, no issues. Holds solid and doesn’t matter the finish on the upper. Well done.
Bang for buck
Great product for my .308 build. Just as good as the reaction rod quarter the cost
Great value
Solid piece and works good. Good fit to Criterion barrel.
Junk
This thing is total junk says it will handle 70 ft-lbs but barely 40 ft-lbs and it broke and on top of that fucked up my upper receiver
