About Presma AR-15 Barrel Vise Block Rod - Black - AV2
.223 Barrel Vise Block Rod for .750” – AR-15, Black. SKU AV2 Really cool tool for working on your AR build. This multi-use tool helps with ease of installation of barrel nuts without scratching the exterior. Also a great way to securely hold your AR’s upper receiver assembly for maintenance and upgrades. Comes with carrying case/holder. These tools are made to grip in a bench vise so that the rod is either vertical or horizontal. You then slide the upper receiver onto the reaction bar. The splines on the front of the rod enter the into barrel extension for a secure hold and fit. Ready for tuning, it’s that simple. 11″ in Length. Color anodized. Tips are 7075 Aluminum and base is 6061. Will handle 70+ ft lbs of torque.

The good: the vise block worked for holding the barrel while I torqued it, and again for the muzzle device. No signs of failure, as the barrel nut only received 45 lb ft. The bad: the roll pin holding the body to the head that locks into the chamber protrudes slightly on one side and I couldn't position the upper in multiple orientations as it made contact and wouldn't fit. Luckily… read more it fit with the roll pin at the top and bottom of the upper. I think a quick file to knock down the high spot and it'll be good to go, but it shouldn't have been sent like that. Overall, it's definitely worth the money, just know that it may require some filing if the pin has put a protrusion in the body and you need to use it at multiple different angles. It could be the billet upper I'm using has a tighter tolerance. I didn't try it with a forged upper.

If you want to keep your barrel from twisting at the barrel nut this is the tool to keep your build looking 100% when installing a muzzle device. If you build ofter or just want to build things the right way this helps.

Barrel fits nicely. For the price I don't think it can be beat. If I built a ton of ARs I'd probably get the MI, but for me occasionally building a new upper I'm sure it's fine .

Rod worked great but I did have to do some initial cleanup of the item before I could use it. The roll pin was a little off center and created a rough area on one side. A little file work to clean up the rough area and it was fine.

This vise block does its job very well. That said, its job is allowing you to put torque on a barrel nut or muzzle device without damaging the upper receiver. It does this very well, and you can sure pay a lot more for a similar project. I found the fit on my Mil Spec upper to be rather tight, so much so that i had to use some gun oil. It locked into the star chamber just fine,… read more and the torque was not a problem. The first job I did with it was remove a barrel, and that's where the drawbacks show up. I had to remove the hand guard by pulling forward, and there is nothing holding the upper onto the vise. If you pull toward the muzzle, it just slides right off. The product is not designed to resist pulling. I would have been better off with an upper vice block that used the take down and pivot pins to hold the upper in place. There are some good ones right here at AR15Discounts.com. I will probably keep it for torquing my barrel, but it does not do everything an upper vise block should do in my opinion.

Admittedly, I had to put too much torque through mine to remove a stuck barrel nut but, when it failed the roll pin that holds the 7075 tips to the 6061 base turned inside the base ballooning the base out and causing it to be stuck in my upper receiver. With a cutoff wheel and a good attitude I was able to get it out and save my upper, but It had me wondering why the base is made… read more from 6061 Al when there’s plenty of cheaper plain carbon steel out there with a much higher yield strength. I’m sure it’s fine most of the time, just be warned, if you accidentally put too much torque thru it you’ll end up with a much larger problem than a stuck barrel nut. I machined a new base out of 1045, reused the tips, and haven’t had a problem since.

You get what you pay for, this is an economy model. Does the job but after 2 builds I don't think it will live much longer. Next time I'd pay the extra $$ and get a sturdier model that will last.

Not made as well as I thought it was if you are doing one build or a barrel change out it’s find but for a professional gunsmith I would say get a better one

I needed something like the Giessele Reaction rod but didnt want to spend $200. This was the least expensive option and worked perfectly. Comes with a sheath too. I used it during a build with a BCM upper that was super tight for the Ballistic advantage barrel. Used it to slightly turn the barrel bc it was off center. Would recommend/buy again

This is a must have for any builder or gun smith! That silly block that the upper pins onto is handy for some simple things but if your messing around with barrel nuts,Flash suppressor and muzzle brakes then this is the go to tool!!! Fit snug in the bolt/port area and the barrel/bolt splines held it in place for torquing the barrel nut!!!
