Why the need for a “Compliant Rifle Grip” Per recent California law, centerfire AR-15 rifles with bullet buttons are now considered assault weapons and must be registered before June 30th, 2018. Converting your rifle to a “featureless” rifle will mean that you will NOT be required to register it as an assault weapon. A “featureless” rifle is a fully functional rifle without the generic characteristics (or features) that define an assault weapon (such as a pistol grip, flash suppressor, telescoping stock, etc.). A “featureless” centerfire AR-15 rifle CAN have a normal and fully functional magazine release. Our CRG-15 rifle grip does NOT meet the California definition of a pistol grip (see details below*) due to the “forced” placement of the web of the trigger hand; therefore, we have classified this product as a “Compliant Rifle Grip”. The CRG-15 grip is an important aspect in the building of a “featureless” rifle. Why the CRG-15 Rifle Grip There are other options to eliminating the pistol grip on your rifle to make it compliant or “featureless”, but many of them are not comfortable or functional such as kydex grip wraps or grip fins. Many also don’t look very good, or are downright ugly! Others are very expensive and difficult to change back if you want to go shooting in another state. In contrast, our CRG-15 rifle grip is very affordable and only requires one screw to install. We also designed it to be as comfortable and functional as possible, while keeping consistent with the modern look of the AR-15 platform (it matches other premium furniture already on your rifle). We believe our CRG-15 rifle grip is the highest quality, the best value, the best looking, and the most comfortable “non-pistol” grip available… we hope you agree! Disclaimer: We are not lawyers, and this is not legal advice. This and similar products have not been approved by the California Department of Justice. Even so, our attorneys, Michel & Associates P.C., prepared an analysis of the CRG-15 rifle grip and wrote an opinion stating that it is not a “pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon,” as that term is used in the definition of an “assault weapon” under California Penal Code section 30515(a)(1). *Definition per State of California’s “Assault Weapons Identification Guide”, 3rd Edition, November 2001, page 80: “Pistol Grip, conspicuously protruding: A grip that allows for a pistol style grasp in which the web of the trigger hand (between the thumb and index finger) can be placed below the top of the exposed portion of the trigger while firing.” Click the image below for more information about the CRG-15 analysis from the prominent 2A law firm Michel & Associates.

Excellent Value
Easy ordering, some difficulty with format of placing the order, ultimately ending up with the wrong color, which changed my design, because even after contacting them early, they could not change my order .It turned out OK though and they offered a discount. Overall, I am satisfied and would use them again
Good compliant option
Looks better than a thordsen and let's you use a normal stock- won't fit well underneath fixed stocks.
Great grip for any featureless build
Its honestly more comfortable than you'd think just by looking at it. Compared to fin grips or mag locks this has been a better choice thus far.
Awesome lookin product
It feels and looks great as the picture. Color matches pic. Arrived fast.
Damn California
It is uncomfortable to hold the rifle. There is a weird feeling it is unnatural when switching the safety lever and mag release. Only in California...
Very comfortable
Very comfortable and easy to wield. Let’s face it, nothing compares to a pistol grip but this grip lets you still get a good purchase so you can manipulate the rifle confidently. Ambi safety is a recommended upgrade to make switching back to safe easier and comfortable.
Ehhh
Yuckk
Nice products
Fast and reliable.
Hate How This Feels in my hand
Title says it all. Of every featureless grip I have used, this one feels horrible. I wanted badly for this to work. I ordered something else for this build and it’s going in the drawer of crap I can’t use. Might work for a girl or someone with small hands but this feels awkward. I have other 3D printed grips or Resurgent Arms grips which are all good. This one I cannot recommend.
Grip review
works great, will order more ..
Great for those oppressive states
this is probably the most comfortable of these grips that's actually still legal in CA. The juggernaut and ones of that angle I'm very lery of using because of the way the law is written they don't seem to meet the requirements for 'not a pistol grip'. I would recommend it and will buy again.
Small pond
It gets 5 stars because it doesn’t stab me in the palm (resurgent), it’s available (featureless arms), and it’s not $70 (juggernaut).
CA legal featureless grip
Grip was installed on an AR 15 with an A2 standard stock. Would have given it 5 stars but I had to trim the curved section at the top of the grip to get it to fit against the stock. Would work just fine if using a stock that was just buffer tube at the reciever.
Best grip out there
Way better than a fin grip
Sparrow dynamics grip
It’s great...much better then the fun grip...nothing against it but I prefer this grip any day
Get a grip
Politics asides- this is a decent grip. Preference for looks on “compliant” grips is personal. Personally I care more about function- but am glad this doesn’t make my rifle look like a car wash attachment. It’s pretty comfy for me, I’d prefer a “standard” grip to it- but it doesn’t really impede basic function. As others mention- you may need to look at your safety… read more or other controls since this will change your hand position. Even with big hands, the backstrap is somewhat uncomfortable for me. I contact the buffer tube and nut with my thumb and web when holding it. The FDE was a dead match (to my eyes) with Magpul FDE. It was a pain for me to get on. Maybe it was my lower- but I ended up needing to gently file inside the grip and then use a rubber mallet to get it onto the receiver. So con. But pro- it ain’t going anywhere on ya, you could probably loose the screw for the grip and not realize it if yours is as tight as mine was. One more con- if you do a lot of shooting and moving, or think you might- I don’t know that this grip has my confidence as far as keeping your hold on it in less than ideal circumstances. still 5 stars though- a good solution to a legislative problem- and a respectable choice for those who just like a more classic “rifle style” grip bit like the AR platform (and don’t want to spend on an Ares...) I have ordered a Thordsen Gen 3 to try out and will try to update this to compare since: disclaimer: I don’t have much basis for comparison on compliant grips to gauge this against the competition. I like it better than the hammer grips, which I’ve never owned but have gotten a turn at and didn’t care for.
Had some challenges
Overall, I liked the idea of these grips. I get it, the design is suboptimal - but they are meant to address the ridiculous "evil features" law we have here in CA, specifically the idea that a pistol grip is the work of satan himself. Ok, back to the review. Just providing some context. I ordered three. As it turned out, I had a few nearly assembled AR15's that were anxiously… read more waiting a grip. I pulled it out of the packaging (+1 for their packaging, it was well designed paper, not gobs of unopenable plastic) and tried putting it on the lower. It straight up did not fit. I pushed a little harder and realized that they were designed to be VERY tight. I'm not the strongest guy in the world, but I could not push it onto the lower without the help of a hammer. Once I channeled my inner Thor, it went on. I also needed a hammer to tap it back off. Once off, I set in the safety detent pin and then inserted the spring into the hole the grip. Again, I tried to manually push it onto the lower, wasn't happening. Now, I'm a little nervous because I needed to be very careful with the tapping as to not bend the spring. I was super careful and managed to get it seated correctly. After testing the grip with safety, I wanted to take it back off, so I could put the trigger in. This is where I had major issues getting the grip off. It's stuck on so hard, I had to yank it, which of course, bent the selector switch detente spring. I'll end the blow by blow here and just say that I ferociously bent one safety spring until I managed to figure out how to tap it up and out with my hammer to knock it loose. The other two I ordered had the same issue - overly tight tolerance seating into the lower that required a little muscle and hammer time. And I've got two more slightly bent safety springs to show for it. Just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, I put on a few Magpul grips and a Thorsdsen one as well, no issues. They slip on (and off) with out any additional percussive force. Overall, I think these are a) somewhat overpriced and b) Sparrow Dynamics needs to loosen these guys up. I was hoping for a less expensive, basic solution so I can keep several of my AR's in compliance, while I work on them. I recommend looking at thorsden or some of the fin solutions.
Behind Enemy Lines
Not so featureless rifle!!! Love this grip. The feel and hold begins to feel very comfortable once you shoulder. FDE color is true to most FDE. Sparrow Dynamics is a go to grip.
Uncomfortable and too blocky
This grip looks nice and yes, I think it's better than the fin, but these are very blocky. If you wear a meduim or large glove you will seriously want an ambidextrous safety because your thumb wont reach the safety anymore and get used to hand fatigue. Evan after ALOT of sanding these are not comfortable at all! The concept is great but it needs to be far more ergonomical and shooter… read more friendly. You may like this more if you have banana hands but there are better options available.
CRG15 - New Kid on the Block.
Getting the screw into the hole correctly was a bit difficult. I ended up returning this item because I'm using a Magpul Carbine Fixed Stock, so there's not enough room for my thumb to get on the other side. You gotta have an exposed buffer tube for this product to work. Totally not the fault of the product. In the future I would like to see a version of this product that is thinner/slimmer.… read more Would be nice if the bottom had a cover so I could store batteries in there. Texture is a bit slippery. Best looking CA Complaint Rifle Grip I've seen though.
Compliant
Item works as it was designed to
Complant Grip
Not a bad option for CA gun owners. Color matches Magpul well. Pro tip: pair it with an ambi safety selector switch. Makes your featureless rifle manipulations almost like it should be on a 'normal' AR.
Compliant Rifle Grip
The grip installed easily on my lower receiver. The part shipped fast. Still building my AR so I have not gotten a chance to use it yet.
AR15DISCOUNTS ROCKS
Living in Kalifornia under democrat Communism we have to make our bang sticks politically correct. So in an effort to appease the comrade clowns in Sacramento I have tried several different configurations from mag locks to featureless setups. Through AR15 Discounts I discovered this grip, and out of the plethora of configurations that I have tried this one has really won me over.… read more In fact I am in the process of refitting my AR's from the Thordston set up's I have them in now and redoing them with this grip system instead. Really like how this grip feels in the firing position, just do yourself a favor when installing this grip and add an ambidextrous safety switch to your weapon if it does not already have one on it. Now I just need to figure out what to do with 8 very expensive Thordston stocks I no longer need. The only reason for the four star rating is that having to even change the original design of the AR because of the Kali Commy government is automatically a one star ding.
