Initially = Junk. OK After Tweaks

When I first installed this, I lightly oiled the recessed groves for MY detent to better slide. (This safety SHOULD only be sold with new detents - if you don't have multiple detents laying around, either buy some spares or buy from a different manufacturer.) Anyways - once everything was all tightened up, I performed a function test and it was a FAIL! The safety would not budge.… read more I disassembled, checked, reinstalled and FAIL. The detent holes have poor milling with sharp edges and are slightly too deep. I tried a few other detents and finally found one that worked. After lots of back & forth manipulation, the safety began to operate well and somewhat smooth. I'm not sure if I would buy this again. I should have known better due to it being stupid cheap.

I ordered five of these while they were on sale, since I shoot left-handed and had been meaning to convert some of my rifles over to better accommodate my handicap. These install easy though I wish they'd have put the scalloped lever on the left side, since those whom are installing these are most likely lefties anyways. It would have saved us from loosening up the screws, which… read more appear to have been thread-locked in place (rightfully so). Or, ship them all loose in the bag. Four of the five were perfect, I had one that the switch/lever was broken (indicator broken off, loose in bag). AR15Discounts was great though, they promptly shipped out a replacement without issue. Very much appreciated! Since 4 out of 5 were great, I give this one 4 out of 5 stars. Still recommend.

Ambi,most are out of stock,this fits,preforms as should.I pulled out emroy clothed,lubed reinstalled,,problem was actually a damaged detent pin,,,,,,now smooth functional,great price!

Great little addition at a steal for the price.

Just got mine and dropped it right in. Machining, fit and finish are on point and it functions perfectly. The scallop on this guy is what sold me on it and in person it's even better than I anticipated, it's exactly what I needed since I grip high. I would recommend using a quality safety selector spring and detent. I used a Sig set that I had extra and it's nice and tight with… read more very positive clicks when activating. Purchased and installed two of these. There is a past review that says "...installed it didn't function very well and would lock up..." I had something similar happening. The one I installed with a USED safety detent worked flawlessly. The one I installed with a NEW safety detent was a locked up mess. After two install attempts and having a locked up safety in the safe position,… read more I just pushed very hard on the safety and it popped hard and slammed into the fire position. At this point it worked fine and has ever since. It looks as though me forcing it sheared off the end of the sharp point on the detent. Now the point is rounded and it works great.... YMMV...just a heads up.

It work until it didn't...

I just purchased this to give it a shot but I haven't even use my rifle and the safety has failed. It appears that the cylinder has grind away the pin until it got locked in the fire position. Never seen this happen before on any of my builds.

The finger cut out is a little sharp. I am sure it will wear down the more I use it, but It should have been rounded. Even so, I still like the product enough to recommend it.

Not good at all

The detent would get stuck in the fire position and it was very hard to change the selector location to safe. After some filing and 2000 grit sand paper to smooth out the issue it works fine now but I’d go with another Ambi selector and avoid the hassle.

Stripping the screw

Not so good

I had a lot of trouble getting the groove for the detent pin to accept the pin. It would snap in the detent but wouldn't rotate between safe and fire. I finally had to get my trusty dremel tool out and go to work on it. After about an hour of trial and error, and dremeling, it is finally working satisfactory. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because it looks great installed.

Well made part, but it was out of spec

The detent holes were drilled much too deep, causing the safety detent to lock into the safety, making the lever impossible to move. To AR15DISCOUNTS CREDIT- They sent me a new one, no questions asked.

Installation was easy, but as other reviews reflect this is a poorly machined part. Once installed it didn't function very well and would lock up making this a flat out dangerous component to have installed on a fighting rifle. Returning it will cost me about half the price of the original purchsse. Will be destroying and making sure to get a quality part next time

Decent For The Price

The fit and finish is fine, and it came with two allen keys to install it which is nice. I did have some issues where the detent from my Anderson lower parts kit was engaging the safety to the point that I had to sand down the tip of the detent as it wouldn't move at all otherwise, but I don't know if this is an issue with the selector or with the cheap parts kit.

I now know why it's a Dirty Bird product. Because that Ambi Safety Selector was a Dirty Bird to get working properly. I had just purchased a set of small files and they really came in handy to work that Dirty Bird Safety Selector over so that it would start functioning properly. I had to smooth out all the sharp tooling marks so that the detent could slide in and out and over the… read more machined area to function properly. I'm going to give it a three and recommend it because most builders would be able to accept the challenge of making this work properly and succeed. Otherwise pay more and save yourself three hours of filing and fitting that Dirty Bird Ambi Safety Slector.
